Rusalka is a long time Sims lover who has been playing the game since the first edition premiered. She made up her own legacy challenge for Sims 1 and then continued the tradition by creating families for Pinstar’s infamous Sims 2 Legacy Challenge. Now, with her Sims 3 addiction in full force, Rusalka is diving in with her story for Pinstar’s Sims 3 Legacy Challenge.
The creation of her legacy family founder, Adhara Aerie, was inspired by her love of fantasy and science fiction literature. Elves have always been some of her favorite fantasy characters and she has always enjoyed alien-themed science fiction (stay tuned for that in later chapters of the Aerie family legacy…). A rabid sci-fi reader might even notice that the chapters of the Aerie Family legacy are named after Rusalka’s favorite science fiction books.

Adhara’s first name is inspired by the stars, literally. Adhara is the common name for Epsilon Canis Majoris, the second brightest star in the constellation Canis Major. The origin of the word is Arabic and loosely translates as “virgins,” referring to the founder’s innocence in dealing with the human world. All of the heirs in the Aerie legacy family will be named, alphabetically, for various stars in the night sky.
The last name of the founder and the Legacy family’s surname, Aerie, is a reference to the nest of an eagle or other bird of prey. After creating her founder, Rusalka though she seemed somewhat birdlike in appearance and attitude – strong and proud, but easily broken and fragile inside. The surname is also a nod to Mercedes Lackey‘s Aerie novel in the Dragon Jousters series and to the author herself, a favorite of Rusalka’s.
